LEVEL OF NEED & VALUE FOR MONEY:
Explain why the project is needed by the community and give any evidence from community planning.
The community has approached Kentish Regional Clinic (KRC) to apply the program in their area, as there is a need for people to learn how to reduce the level of suicide in the community. The community planning was carried out through contact with KRC and the one day course was delivered to local representatives, who have evaluated the course and the program and deemed it necessary in their local community.
The value of the program is measured via – The saving of human life, reduction in incidents of self-harm, the building of community capacity and inclusion and the continued operation by the community beyond the life of the official 12 month program. Suicide statistics for communities are often unavailable, but the local community is aware of the frequency of suicides and attempted suicides that have occurred and the detrimental affect these have had upon the community.
HOW WILL YOU MEASURE YOUR SUCCESS?
The success of the program is measured in four ways:
- The elimination and/or the significant reduction of suicide and self- harm in the region.
- The development of the CORE team of 50 people who will actively operate after the end of the project.
- The number of people who have undertaken the one day course (project goal – 250 people).
- The Community becoming part of the national network of the CORESTM community.
