Information Session |
Conduct Information session to the community on the program
In conjunction with your Community we can conduct an information session to those interested people on how the CORES program works.
This option, allows a community to have a 3 hour induction session with organisers and 3 hour community meeting. The reason for this is to decide If there is a need and support for a community Package

WHAT IS A PACKAGE
A package will help empowers local communities to recognise the signs of suicide and intervene before a crisis occurs and the courage to refer onto appropriate services. It offers comprehensive mentoring and support to communities and flexible training through a simple yet effective intervention model. It engages people in the community no matter what their backgrounds may be and presents material in a simple to understand format.
Advice and support in designing, implementing your personalised program.
THE PACKAGE INCLUDES
Training 6 local people as Team Leaders to facilitate 1 Day Suicide Intervention Courses as well as Team Meetings.
• A capacity to train 200 locals in the 1 day training course.
• Twelve months ongoing support and assistance, including six visits by Kentish Regional Clinic staff for the year.
• All material and resources to carry out the training.
Training includes:
- Training 6 people as Team Leaders for the CORES program
These people will be trained over four days to deliver the CORES package. This training will be conducted in your community.
Develop a group of around 30 or more "significant people" in the community to recognise and handle situations in order to prevent suicides.
- 200 people in the your community to be trained in the one day CORES course as part of the package over the 12 months
- Provide Information session to community groups on the CORES program
Implementation of the CORESprogram into the your community will commence with a community Launch followed by the
CORES one day training course for those people who wish to become members of the CORES Team.
The development of the CORES Team (“significant group”) will be supported by 5 visits by Senior Staff from KRC over the 12 months of the contract and one wrap up session

Team Leader Training |
Team Leaders undergo a 4 day training course and this enables them to deliver the one day course.
Other topics covered include communication and listening skills and the history of CORES
All team leaders must address selection criteria and have 3 current references. Team Leaders also participate in an interview either in person or over the phone.
All team leaders receive all material required and need to be able to access a laptop and projector to deliver training.
Team Leaders receive a shirt or jacket as part of the training.
Team Leader training can be carried out by individuals if a package is not available in their area however the training for these people is carried out in Sheffield Tasmania unless there are 6 people available in one state who can travel to a central spot.

CORES 1 day training course provides participants with an introduction to the topic
of suicide including community attitudes
and facts. Suicidal thoughts and behaviours are explored through the use of simple models, discussion and role play.
Strategies for understanding and assisting a person considering suicide are practiced, with a focus on utilising existing community resources.
This training may be accessed by groups or individuals and is not restricted to communities implementing a Community Package.
The program provides individuals with a pathway to involvement in suicide prevention and skills them in being able to take this to the wider community.
The ability and willingness to facilitate ongoing Team Meetings is an integral aspect of this Community Package.
One day course is $75 per person plus travel and accommodation costs outside of Tasmania.
This option allows a community/organisation to provide the 8 hour course to participants with trained Team Leaders with a minimum of 10 people and maximum of 15 people per session.
